Biography
Summary Daniel Thelesklaf is a lawyer with 30 years of experience in Governance, Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Corruption. He joined the Federal Office for Police in 1998 to become the first Director of the Swiss Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) after a career in the private sector (banking, asset management and insurance). He worked as consultant in various Governance, anti-money laundering, anti-terrorist financing and anti-corruption projects and technical assistance missions, mainly in the Caribbean, Eastern and Central Europe and in various CIS countries. From 2008-2011, he managed a large development assistance funded budget as Executive Director of the Basel Institute on Governance. In 2012, he was appointed Director of the Liechtenstein FIU; in this capacity, from 2015-2019, he served two terms as Chairman of Moneyval, and was a member of the Financial Sector Commission (FAST Initiative). In 2019, he became the Director of the Swiss FIU (MROS) and was elected Co-Chair of the FATF Risk, Trends and Methods Working Group. He is a lecturer at the University of Lucerne and the Europe Institute of the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Since April 2021, Daniel is the Project Director of the Liechtenstein Initiative (Finance against Slavery and Trafficking) at the United Nations University.
